5 Questions, Myths, and Facts about Dermal Fillers and Toxin Treatments

By Dr Nina Koohnejad MD

There is a lot of information out there regarding medical aesthetic treatments and the amount of information can be quite overwhelming. So lets address the 5 most common myths about facial aesthetic treatments.

1.  Is there a long recovery time after each treatment?

This is a worry I have heard from many of my patients during their first consultation. It is important to remember that these treatments are minimally invasive and are done with a very small needle. Most patients will only experience a bit of redness and possibly some swelling that settles down within 24h. If you are unlucky you can end up with a small bruise that is usually easy enough to cover with a bit of make up although bruising can last for several days. The downtime is therefor not usually a problem for our patients.

2.  If I stop getting toxin treatments, will my face look worse than before?

Toxin treatments last roughly 3 months. Your body will break down the toxin and the effects will gradually wear off. Hence, your skin condition will be back at where you started.

Having said that, you will look younger and fresher even after all of your toxin treatments wear off simply because your facial muscles wont have been working so strongly during those months and will therefor not have had the opportunity to cause more wrinkles.

3.  Should I only get anti-ageing treatments when I see the first signs of ageing?

Just like disease prevention needs to starts before you fall ill, Anti-aging care should start before you start to show signs of ageing.

Our aim is to delay ageing and make sure you look youthful for longer. This is why we recommend that you start your aesthetic journey early in order to look your very best at all stages of life.

A good skin care routine which includes sunscreen use is vital for your skin (and probably more important than anything else you can do).

Aesthetic treatments such as anti-wrinkle treatment and skin booster treatments (neofound) will keep your skin looking young and fresh whilst filler treatments will replace any volume loss that happens in your face as a natural part of the ageing process.

4.  Will aesthetic treatments will make my face look unnatural?

I am sure everyone has seen at least one person out and about with a very unnatural face after having had an aesthetic treatment or two. You might have seen very large lips or a very overfilled face, or maybe a very frozen face after anti-wrinkle treatment.

Unfortunately, so have we, it seems to be everywhere at present.

This is why our goal is to make sure our patients leave our clinic looking totally natural.

We want strangers in the street to be unaware that you have had any facial treatments and simply to underestimate your age.

We always start with the smallest amount of product available to us for each treatment and make sure we preserve the unique features of your face.

It is of the utmost importance to choose your aesthetic practitioner very carefully and ensure you go to someone who understands facial proportion and balancing of facial features to give a look of natural beauty, rather than un-natural imbalance.

5.  Are aesthetic treatments dangerous or harmful?

Finding a medical clinic with an experienced doctors to work on your face should be your top priority when opting to have an aesthetic treatment.
